Doctor Dru & Adana Twins: Anymore EP (BSR007)

Release Date: 26.10.2011

Behind every successful DJ / DJ team there stands a good producer. Sometimes, it is the DJ who acts as both, sometimes, people get together and create a synergy effect through the collaboration, as it is the case with many teams.

Doctor Dru, based in Hamburg is the producer behind the new release by the Adana Twins (Jeudi), who were basically the creative fountain for the tracks.

Together, they have already produced great tunes, as you have already sensed at the last Black Jukebox Launch party at Ritter Butzke. This time, the trio has released another hit EP in collaboration: Anymore!

The Anymore EP is released by Baalsaal Records, a label developed out of Baalsaal Music, originally founded by Chopstick & Johnjon (both heads of Berlin-based label SUOL now) and André Stubbs in 2006. Baalsaal comments:

„The Baalsaal family is so happy with this one. We would like to warmy welcome Doctor Dru and the Adana Twins, more Hamburg power to our label. This will not be last imprint promised. Although when we look out of the window, there might be leaves falling down and darkness to come soon. This is a late summer groove that will make you smile with a melancholic twist“

The support for the two tracks come from Manik (New York) and Spieltrieb (London, Hamburg), two names in the business that promise great remixes.

Anymore EP Review

1.    Anymore, 120 BPM (7:11)

With a minimalistic beginning, Anymore starts with a bass beat around 0:32 that makes you move! The male vocal snippets get, when the piano starts to blend in around 1:03 and the voice begins to humm at 1:36, you begin to fall in love with this track.

A short interlude with a chorus by overlapping vocals – which is returning now and then – afterwards you get the full beat, all components mixed up creating the full sound.

It has it’s calmer moments and it goes perfectly in the slower category of house music these days. It’s already autumn, but this track will get you back thinking of summer.

2.    Anymore  – Manik RMX (6:50)

Adding some tranquillizing components to the beat, the Manik RMX adds the piano tunes already at 0:45. The vocals are put into front row, higher tunes more emphasized, overall the tones are elongated. Seems as MANIK often used an effector to keep the dreamy atmosphere. Very chilling track!

3.    You’re mine 120 BPM (7:21)

Oh wow. Listening to this one around 2:30am in the night can be scary! Until 2:08 the lower bass is working the beginning, then the main melody begins and adds light to the prevailing kind of heaviness, darkness. The vocals whispering their stories in the background are overtuned by the playful melody and the hi-hat beats are keeping your feet steadily moving. When the keyboard is added, you got the final touch! A perfect track for every dark clubroom in the early morning hours!

4.    You’re mine – Spieltrieb Dub RMX (6:21)

Dub techno-like, as they describe the style, this remix bears the handprints of Spieltrieb. The distorted vocals are overlaid with more present drums, the melody seems to vanish, remaining only as a shadow of the original idea oft he track. For music lovers who prefer minimalistic tunes and like to dance to reoccuring beats – perfect!

All in all, the Anymore EP seems to be filled with tracks that are working well for the later hours of a party on the dancefloor.

The Anymore EP is released both as digital version an das vinyl – for example at junodownload and decks:
