‘Rise Of Angel’ is the brand new single from Luciano, and the first single to be taken from his forthcoming album, due in 2013. However, for the many thousands of dedicated music fans who have made the pilgrimage to Luciano’s hugely successful parties this Summer in Ibiza (the weekly Ushuaia sessions and Vagabundos at Pacha), or the many Cadenza parties around Europe and North America, ‘Rise Of Angel’ has already become the signature tune and musical hi-light in Luciano’s sets, making its release a highly anticipated moment for the Cadenza faithful.

Clocking in at over 15 minutes, ‘Rise Of Angel’ is an epic slice of modern electronic dance music, the simply Balearic, synth and piano driven hook gently builds and teases with cinematic intent, the light percussion and organic beats working the old Luciano magic, it’s no wonder that ‘Rise Of Angel’ has become one of the most talked about tracks of the Ibiza season this year.

For the remixes, Luciano has kept it in the family, enlisting the duties of fellow Cadenza artists Mirko Loko, UNER and Andrea Oliva to all lend their unique production styles to a solid set of reinterpretations. The vinyl 12″ is coupled with Mirko Loko’s pulsating robotic workout, adding a more beats driven take on Luciano’s original, and delving into the bass for a heavyweight techno flecked remix.

And bolstering the digital package, UNER weighs in with a dubbed out, rolling drum version, using the vocal FX to support the groove whilst the pianos ride over the mix, and Andrea Oliva goes straight for the 4/4 jugular with a remix that builds solid tribal beats to a crescendo, adding a new dimension to the Original with a choice vocal section.

‘Rise Of Angel’ will be Luciano’s first release on his own Cadenza label since 2010’s Lucien-N-Luciano’s ‘Cuidad De Luz’ EP, and marks the start of another big chapter in his career, having spent the last couple of years building a passionate audience through hundreds of DJ performances around the world, the Vagabundos events and collaborating musically with artists such as Pharrrell (Neptunes) and Lenny Kravitz. His forthcoming album will be his second full length collection (following 2009’s ʻTribute To The Sunʼ), and his label, Cadenza Records, will celebrate its 10th anniversary, so the future certainly looks bright for the Chilean producer and DJ.

Review

Luciano – Rise of Angel (Original Mix) is a long track of 16:02(!!) minutes – that beats every common 2, 3 track EP and is a light track reminding of summer, sun and beaches… It has a beautiful melody line, with some nice beats underneath. The synth arrangements is soft and warm, kinda dreamy even though it is not a slow piece. All the components slowly building up, creating a timeless masterpiece. Being the first release on his own label since 2010, it was apparently already hyped this summer.

I cannot praise this track enough – it is a gem throughout the releases of 2012, simple, a kind of understatement, but delicate and merely warm. My favourite pick from the EP.

Luciano – Rise of Angel (UNER remix)

UNER, well-known Spanish artist, stripped this track down to minimal soundscapes and focuses on the very dominating snare drums. The vocal parts are giving the track a jungle feeling. It is an UNER style interpretation of Luciano’s original, and if you like UNER so far, you might like this one, too.

The Luciano – Rise of Angel (Andrea Oliva remix)
, which arrived as „Andrea Oliza rmx“ -_- is like the UNER remix only half the length of the original and is more groovy and danceable. Using the piano lines of the original and putting female vocals layered, echoing on the other instrumental layers giving it an almost ghostly effect – very nice one!

Luciano – Rise of Angel (Mirko Loco remix) – this remix might work very well in dark techno clubs. The reoccuring melody is rather put beneath the synth layers and bassline und till it emerges to the foreground after a few minutes. Nice experiment with the layers, even though I am not a big fan of those skeaking sounds of chopped off vocals.

Opinion:

RISE OF ANGEL is a timeless gem, worth listening to!

Shame on me, I have not seen Luciano playing in Berlin this November, but after this EP, I am looking forward to the whole album and will check out on a gig very soon.
