FOREIGN BEGGARS: Durchdrehen, dicke Bässe, wilde Freestyle-Einlagen.
Unter den Live Acts in Sachen Dubstep / HipHop / Grime sind die Foreign Beggars ganz weit vorne. Im vergangenen Jahr feierte die sympathische Kombo zusammen mit Skrillex und dem gemeinsamen Hit „Still Gettin“ eine mehr als erfolgreiche US-Tour. Im Mai dieses Jahres kommen die Briten für drei Termine nach Deutschland – und dabei stehen sie auch im Gretchen auf der Bühne. In London gegründet, sind die Jungs seit ihrem ersten Album „Asylum Speakers“ (2003) aus der UK-Hip Hop Szene nicht mehr wegzudenken. Veröffentlicht wird über das eigene, ebenfalls 2003 gegründete Label Dented Records, auf dem sie allen Freiraum der Welt haben. Nach „Stray Point Agenda“ (2006), „Bukkake Ski Trip“ (2007) und „Asylum Agenda“ (2008) erschien Ende 2009 ihr fünftes Album „United Colors Of Beggattron”, produziert unter anderem vom niederländischen Drum’n’Bass-Produzentenkollektiv Noisia, mit denen die Foreign Beggars auch die beiden Top-Tunes „Contact“ und „Shellshock“ aufnahmen. Drum’n’Bass-Fans freuten sich natürlich auch besonders über „The Cut Deepens“ und „Dark Days“, zwei schöne Features für Alix Perez. Außerdem arbeiteten sie im Laufe der Jahre mit Künstlern wie Björk, Gorillaz, Amy Winehouse, Talib Kweli, Amp Fiddler, Mark Ronson, Wu Tang Clan, Corinne Bailey Rae, Wildchild, Chasing Shadows, Beardyman und anderen internationalen Größen zusammen. Heute präsentieren die beiden MCs Orifice Vulgatron und Metropolis sowie ihr Produzent Dag Nabbit und DJ Nonames ihren Sound, den sie selbst „Glam Rock, Rap, Screamo“ nennen. Auf der Bühne stehen bedeutet bei den Foreign Beggars vor allem eins: durchdrehen. Ihr Name steht für dicke Bässe, wilde Rap- und Freestyle-Einlagen sowie für tropfenden Schweiß von der Decke, kurz: für überragende Live-Shows voller Energie. Diese Typen brennen dermaßen, mit ihrer smarten In-Your-Face-Clubmusik zwischen HipHop, Grime, Dubstep und Drum’n’Bass nehmen sie alles mit, was ihnen in die Quere kommt.
Die Live Aftershow-Party gestaltet der im letzten Jahr schon hoch gehandelte Dillon Francis, der immer wieder durch seine Remixes für unzählige Künstler punktet. Bei Diplo’s Label Mad Decent zuhause, gibt er alles, um dem Dubstep mit fröhlichen 8 Bit Game Sounds und einer Portion House neues Leben einzuhauchen.

Philipp Groth “Hide Your Face” + “Athari” präsentiert von stylistberlin 

Der Künstler Philipp Groth wurde für die erste von stylistberlin kuratierte Austellung im Stattbad ausgewählt. Im Zuge des Call For Artists wird er die Bildreihen “Athari” sowie “Hide Your Face” zeigen. 

Die Inspiration zu “Athari” entstammte der Idee Fotografie und Gemaltes zusammen zu etwas Surrealem verschmelzen zu lassen. Der Hintergrund entstand ausschließlich mit Tinte und Feder während im Vordergrund das fotografische Material dominiert. 

Die Bilderreihe “Hide Your Face” ist Groths neustes Werk in dem er auf irreale Weise das klassische Portrait entfremdet und das Gewöhnliche unwirklich interpretiert. Groth fragt, ob ein verstecktes Gesicht mit totaler Anonymität gleichzusetzen ist, oder wird allein durch die Wahl des verdeckenden Gegenstandes sein Inneres nach Außen gekehrt. 
Entstanden sind die vorliegenden Collagen durch Pinsel und Farbe, die die Umrisse der abgebildeteten Person andeuten, und durch Fotografien, die verschiedenen Persönlichkeiten reflektieren.

Philipp Groth “Hide Your Face” & “Athari” presented by stylistberlin

The artist Philipp Groth was selected to show his works at the first exhibition curated by stylistberlin at Stattbad. He will be exhibiting works from his “Athari” and “Hide Your Face” series. 

The inspiration for “Athari” came from the idea of merging photography and painting together to create a surreal blend. The background was created solely with pen and ink and the foreground out of photographic material. Looked at closely Athari is more dream than reality. 

The selection “Hide Your Face” are Groth’s latest works. By alienating the classical concept of a portrait in a surrealistic way, the artist interprets the growing wish of hiding in namelessness. Groth questions if a hidden face is to equate with total anonymity. 
The works are collages of photos blended with paint. While the paint illustrates the shapes of individuals, the photographs reflect their internal world.

Tatkräftige Unterstützung aus Holland erhalten wir zum einen von Luis Hill. Der gebürtige Berliner lebt mittlerweile in Rotterdam und hat dort seine eigene Partyreihe “Rotterlin”, für die er regelmäßig Dj’s aus Berlin einfliegen lässt. 
Ganz besonders freuen wir uns auch auf die Jungs von Influenza Leeuwarden, die schon Dj-Größen wie Noze in den holländischen Norden gelockt haben. Influenza wird an diesen Abend von Dennis Jahns und Julian Klein vertreten.
Außerdem freuen wir uns ganz besonders auf unseren berliner Hauptact Martin Dawson, der im letzten Jahr unter anderem durch Kollaborationen mit Maceo PLex auf sich aufmerksam gemacht hat und mittlerweile jedem Musikkenner ein Begriff sein wird. 
Aus Berlin haben wir uns außerdem den Gründer von OFF Recordings, Andre Crom. Martin und Andre haben schon des Öfteren zusammen gearbeitet und werden mit ihren treibenden Sets die Tanzfläche zum Toben bringen. 
Wir haben uns bewusst für das Prince Charles entschieden, da es in der Vergangenheit mit internationalen Bookings einen einzigartigen Flair erreicht hat.
