11 Jan 2011:
Some developers’ event (“hackerthon”) caught my attention last week, because one of my closest friends, David cancelled a party night with me at Panorama Bar’s finest party (made to play). And he usually is the party animal of us both.
Since it must have been one of the cooler events, I was looking it up on my friend Viktorias page tiburon-tv and voilà, saw that it was sponsored by soundcloud and madvertise, to name a few familiar ones. Just having met a former colleague from work, I got interested in the whereabouts of my “nerd” friends, and it kinda felt warm to see that the others were sticking to their profession and making something out of it.
About the appbackrthon:
It was an event run from Friday, ending Sunday, with teams made up of participants who had enrolled individually in the contest (copied from their page):
. Freitag
20 Uhr – Anfang, get together, Pizza
20:30 Uhr – Welcome, Vorstellung appbackr, Soundcloud, cloudControl, Trademob, Madvertise
21 Uhr – Ideen Pitchen (60 sec.), Team building
22 Uhr – happy hacking
. Samstag
All day coding
API Einführung von Soundcloud, cloudControl, Trademob, Madvertise
. Sonntag
14 Uhr – wrap up, submit App
14:15 Uhr – Hack Pitch Session (3 min. pro Team)
15 Uhr – Beginn Preisverleihung
Coming home from breakfast with Mr. Jesse Rose and co., having slept a few hours, I called up David to check on his score and ask about the appbackrthon event Viktoria Trosien had posted on her site.
Aaaaand the winner was…… LineTime(the team with David)!! His team actually won the contest and is now flying over to SF and Google headquarters etc. (Amazing good job, David, am really proud of you! Second big thing after your company won the price for the best iphone app last winter, 2011 will be a good year for you!)
*** HOT HOT HOT INTERVIEW ***
Just had a phone interview with David (11.01.2011, 12:30):
“LineTime”(working title) is the app which was developed during the appbackr contest.
. for iPhone and iPad
. revolutionary new way to interact with time and world history
. early prototype version, to be released soon on the App Store
. developed within 24 hours
. swipe through historical events with your fingers, zoom deep into time
. founder team: Gerry, John, Mikkel, David (all coders), Leon (design)
. http://www.linetimeapp.com – @linetimeapp on Twitter
Description in normal human language: You can zoom into world history by this app with your fingertips – it will show you the historical information from the chosen century, decade, year, down to the day and time, just as you wish. The information you get are based on wikipedia, so overall this is once again really so web 2.0.
The iphone app is going to be published soon, and the deal is that appbackr will buy a certain amount of the apps from the beginning on. Also, marketing is going to be massive! :) Nice!
The “best thing” David told me about it was: the whole team won two full weeks at silicon valley including loads of important stations. Wow.
For further information, look out to the magazine interviews, tiburon-tv show and keep an eye on David, I am sure that the plista team will regret not having paid more attention when I tried to get them focusing on this guy’s potential several years ago.
Congrats, linetimeapp-team on doing such a great job!
PS. You know I LOVE nerds, so no offense!
13.01.2011, Thx to tiburon-tv / Viktoria
