A lot has happened the past weeks, not to say months, and deactivating the facebook account was really relieving. It did not have the expected impact on my life at all.
Deactivating my facebook account and being “off” for almost two months has brought me following insight:
Negative effects:
I missed one of my best friend’s birthday. My bad, that I was relying on my FB calendar for years now. I put it on my calendar and now the problem is (hopefully) solved!
I couldn’t care less about updating the blog-page :$ – this I really regret!
Positive effects:
I did not get any spam from promoters I do not even know, for parties I did not have the intention to attend.
No DJs sending me their promo-files via FB message (one of the things I hate most about FB).
Not seeing any annoying rants about the weather, football games, FOOD, traffic, no complaints about life, no pretentious self-portraits of narcissists of whom we all know better…
I still enjoyed having a filled private life, updating with friends face to face or via email and fon, skype and twitter. I did not miss the latest event-news, as I got the newsletters in time via email. I kept in touch with all agencies and partners via other social media. I met some important producers, DJs, kept in touch with writers, journalists, listened to the latest vinyl releases, and took some time to listen to the promos accumulated on my desk. And above all, I got some steps forward with my thesis paper. (Big YAY!)
The reason why I am back now: because FB still offers the fastest way to update on people I worked with or want to work with.
I think if I keep NOT CHECKING FB MESSAGES and UNLIKING event pages, I will not get spammed with unnecessary information any more.
