Review: Re.You feat. Ahmad – “Fever” (AV001)

0 Comments 07 April 2012

A Votre just has knocked on the doors of Berlin’s musical scene and is hatching the very first release by Re.You, which will be available not only in digital but also on vinyl this April.

At this point, it is really great to see that the trend of the newly-founded labels like Steyoyoke, Odd Socks and now A Votre get back to the roots!

The first release by Santé’s label, AV001 “FEVER”, is by Re.you, the producer behind the bootleg hit of Lana del Rey’s “Video Games” that racked up about 78.000 plays on our favourite platform soundcloud.

A Fever (Original mix) feat. Ahmad Larnes:

Ahmad Larnes, the singer from New York spices up the melodic house track by Re.you with his souly voice. In between of the dark bassline creating a deep-house sound and the torn, bizarre and frightening male voice:

“You got me on fire, you’re all I desire (They can be no other, only you, only you!) You’re the star of all my dreams, the one improves the lights in form of a flame (and because of that) I’m yours all yours, all yours”

There is a clear hi-hat that leads the beat, and you get caught humming along the lines:

“A fire burns inside of me (…) you’re on my mind so constantly, I’m burning up and it’s all ’cause of you… Fever, fever, fever! You got me twisted for your love, I run to you like a moth to a flame (…) I’m burning up and you’re the one to blame”

Listening closely, the chords slightly shift at the end of the track, creating yet another deeper level of darkness. But at the very end of track, everyone will repeat the chorus line, that is for sure:

“Fever, fever, fever, I’m burning up ’cause of you”

(… and the song is featuring the melody of  The Who?)

B Fever (Fabio Giannelli remix):

“The flipside features a remix of Fabio Giannelli, who is also well known from his release on Hypercolour. Fabio is increasing the dancefloor hysteria by picking up a heavy organ chord for the after-hours feel, the instrumentation and weirding out the baseline.”

The remix by Fabo Giannelli features oriental elements, like a reoccuring background melody – for me this remix does not work that well, as the original version by Re.you is outstanding because of the vocal part, that was ommitted and replaced in this remix for inconstant instrumental rearrangement as it seems. Props for making a proper remix, not an edit like many out there at the moment, though.

Opininion: The original track has potential to be a hit on the deephouse charts when it is hitting more dancefloors – works better than the remix for me.

Early support by the Berlin crew. &me, Adam Port, Rampa.

This is Re.You, currently after MACEO PLEX and before ADANA TWINS on #2 in the beatport charts, in the stylistberlin interviews:
