Interviews

Max Buskohl (Universal)

0 Comments 23 November 2011

It was one of those house-parties where you meet a lot of new people. Some guy (one of my dearest friends now) had caught my attention because he was so funny. Along with him, there was Max. As people whispered, he just had some tv appearance and had participated in some show. Since I had promised myself to keep away from tv until I am done with my studies in Berlin, I had neither heard of him nor seen the show and he was just a kid in my eyes, so I did not dig that further.

Somehow, out ways crossed a lot afterwards. I got to hear his music, which caught my interest and there was this fun birthday party of him and Simon at Cookies Club, mine at Spindler&Klatt, the Empty Trash concert, Bang Bang Club nights and many more. The funniest re-encounter was at a photo-shooting, where I was covering the label involving Tommy Brix aka Pixel from Munich and he was modelling alongside some girl from GNTM.

His band Empty Trash was featured in the “Die Welle” OST and things were running good until suddenly there was a “E.T. farewell concert” which announced that it was over suddenly. Well, Empty Trash is on a break right now, but Max was starting to tour around the world. I kinda lost track the past months, but when he was posting with whom he had worked with in the meantime, I got curious again.

So these are the recent updates of Max Buskohl. For those who are waiting for his solo album release: coming soon! Will keep you informed. And now, enjoy!

. Where are you right now?

At home on my red couch with my feet on the coffee table and some sushi from last night… Not the best…

. What are you doing at the moment?

Im getting used to being back home after having been recording for the past week. I always think you lose a sense of reality when you go work creatively for more than one day even …

. Describe yourself in three words or one sentence:

Alive, and well!

. Your Soundtrack of your life currently:

I have to say I’m listening to The Beach Boys a lot at the moment. Favorite tune at the moment is “Long Promised Road” and Tom Petty’s “Angel Dream (No. 4 and No. 2)” (both have their charms) is an amazing tune! And a great current song is “ I need a dollar” by Aloe Blacc. What a fantastic singer!

. What did you read lately?
Well Im a big fan of all kinds of music-magazines. I collect as many as I can get. The best magazines I can recommend are MOJO, UNCUT and the CLASSIC ROCK. But I’m also very happy with anything that covers music and photography. Reading a book takes a lot of time for me. It always comes to a part that bores me and then it might take half a year till I come back to it. There are very few books I’ve actually finished. But I just got Keith Richard’s biography. Looks very promising (it also has pictures!).
. Please tell me something about your current projects:

I’m currently signed to Universal and I’m working on my solo career… Which has turned out to be a great new experience. They sent me all over the world to write with great people. Never thought my life would change once again so drastically. I like pretending to be the DJ sometimes for free drinks and maybe a taxi home… and I try to collaborate with a lot of people for a new musical experience.

Well I’ve recorded almost half of my new album, my second debut album… and I’ll be recording the rest next year (with a little luck somewhere warm). I guess it’ll be out some time in spring if all works out as planned. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in this business it’s never to expect anything to work as planned – which is ironically the beauty of it all.

. Can you recommend any (other) shows or gigs, events for the next weeks?

Gigs… Well there’s a great party going on at the Hard Rock cafe on the 18th with Hustler Fashion or something like that and free “Glühwein-shots”. But on the 25th it’s the Bang Bang Club’s last night. And I’m gonna be playin’ a couple of songs together with friends (still haven’t decided on a name haha). Should be a fun night!

. What makes you happy the most at the moment?
Being alive and well makes me happiest I guess and the privilege of being able to make music for a living, and being related and/or friends with such beautiful people.
. How long have you been a singer and how did music become your life?
I’ve been in bands since I was 11. But I made my first real buck in 2007 after I left Germanys version of Simon Fuller’s talent show as 4th or 3rd (whichever way you want to see it). I left when there were 3 of us. I quit the show for my band, Empty Trash, which I had since November 2005. You could say that was when I was first thrown into the cold water and I like to think Ive been keeping up pretty well so far staying afloat even if its not quite above sea level.

. What is your dream now?
World Peace, functioning music industry and an island to live on which moves to where-ever the weather is best: sunny, with a slight cool breeze at 27°C.

. Where will you be in 2015? 2020?
I thought the world will end in 2012!? if it doesn’t: Maybe President of the United States of America, but I could also be busking on the streets of Greece for more Ouzo or singing my newest single for the 127th time…

. Schlusswort?
Love, Peace and Chicken Grease
