21 Oct 2011: OFF Recordings night at Watergate & Robosonic at Arena

0 Comments 28 October 2011

Watergate Club is one of the nicer venues at the Spree-river in Berlin. In the summer, you sit outside on the “water-porch” and talk until dawn breaks. How many hours have we spent there, enjoying the summer breeze…!

If you are on the Waterfloor, you have the most beautiful bridge of Berlin behind the DJ decks,  Oberbaumbrücke, on your left and the huge Universal Music sign and now the nhow Hotel across the river. This is the reason the Waterfloor is picked the favoured one over the Main Floor upstairs.

One of the seldom occasions you could meet up with people in private and enjoy the music – Berlin’s people had a very good time – was the Off Recordings label night:

Main Floor

Extrawelt LIVE, Pan Pot, Daniele Papini – they say it was packed, that 80% came just to see Extrawelt, but we did not get one minute of any of the sets upstairs, because everyone was downstairs… Oops.

Fumée Grise

The opening set was by Fumée Grise, an artist stylistberlin had an eye on for a while, so I went to check his turntable-skills. DJs who are concentrating on the mixes, even though every opening is hard, because the whole crowd is still standing in line outside or at the bar, get a helluva bonus. It shows how serious you take DJing. His mixing was very thoughtful and just fit, his set was superb. What was supposed to be one hour at Watergate turned out to get much longer…

André Crom

OFF Recordings label boss André Crom on the decks – it had been a year since I had seen him behind a DJ table, so I was very eager to take this with me. Well, what should I say. He is the boss, he played fine tunes and proved that his skills were good as ever!

Chris Carrier

Monsieur Carrier, a house legend from France, delivered a set sounding like a fresh breeze in my ears. Not the usual house stuff from Berlin; he played tunes that are not often heard in Berlin and he perfectly complemented the previous sets. The crowd enjoyed it very much!

Martin Dawson LIVE

Didn’t know that Martin played live; the remixes he did for friends were amazing, so all eyes were on his live equipment. It was a delight to watch him play, because he had obviously fun while playing live – the crowd went literally crazy and I think his name will be mentioned more often in the future, so keep an eye on him!

The label night was a big success, with the whole crew dancing – it had been a long time everyone was there partying in private, nobody had to do business there. Pure enjoyment of the music and the company – one of the seldom events in Berlin these days.

Robosonic

A huge fan of Robosonic, there was a time the only CD I purchased as gift for friends all over the world was their Robosonic-yellow album. Having the album and their numerous sets in mind, I was very surprised to hear quite a different tune this time.

2 hours of pure good vibes – when they played “The Sweetness”, the first time I heard it in a club, it was breathtaking. This. track. is. very. special. Lovely J.Phlip did a remix as well, and the only thing I can say is GO GET IT!!!
