Label. Avotre

Title. House Lesson
Cat number. AV003
Release date: Tuesday, 20th November, 2012
Web: http://a-votre.com
Agency: Exclusive Promo

In April 2012, I introduced the new label AVOTRE by Santé to you: http://stylistberlin.de/articles/new-label-2012-a-votre

AV001 – Fever: was by Re.You featuring Ahmad Larnes from Schwarz Don’t Crack and was a very nice release: http://stylistberlin.de/articles/review-re-you-feat-ahmad-fever-av001

AV002 – Homegirl: I missed to cover on stylistberlin, because I received the information via FB – a way where everything easily gets lost, as you see. Homegirl by Santé himself was one of the most played tracks this summer:

AV003 – House Lesson: this EP by Berlin’s Sidney Charles was delivered directly into my inbox, and thus gets out to you just in time! The remix comes from Chris Carrier, an artist who is known in Berlin for his release on OFF Recordings.

Who is Sidney Charles?

“Sidney Charles is not a musician, nor a percussionist. He is a collector. A collector of culture and experiences… The energy and feeling around the track is what sets it apart and Sidney’s House Lesson EP is a straight up house number, reminiscent of the US house sound – full of groove, drum rolls, hi-hats, snares and a vocal that tops the lesson in how to create that perfect house track.“

Tracklist

B1. Sidney Charles – House Lesson (Chris Carrier Remix)

Track by Track Review

A1. Sidney Charles – House Lesson

If you listen to all of the three releases of Santé’s new label, you get a notion where this is leading to: to an array of very housy melodies and beats. Sidney Charles managed to produce a track that goes well with the previous ones. I have to admit that I am not very fond of the sound of the hi-hats and percussions on this one, but I love the vocal arrangement and the attempt to make a track fun to listen to through the narration sampling. The claps sound a bit too easy, but definitely a track that will mingle very well in every groovier house sets. If you liked Oliver Dollar’s Doin’ ya thing release, you might like this one. Now, go partying!

B1. Sidney Charles – House Lesson (Chris Carrier Remix)

Chris Carrier’s remix stays with the fast beats of the original and omits the vocals entirely, leaving the track very minimalistic, more techno.

Opinion:

Not bad, Sidney Charles, not bad! Also being a member of the Jeudi Records released artists, this guy is someone to watch. House Lesson EP offers a nice party smasher and for the simpler-going fans of Avotre a tech-track of Chris Carrier – so everyone gets what he wants. I’d say: go get it!
