Miguel Campbell, the burgeoning young star who shot to global fame in 2011 after debut release on Hot Creations ‘Something Special’ became one of the biggest tracks of the year, is about to drop not only debut artist album but the first full-length to appear on the illustrious Hot Creations label. The superbly crafted and pop infused ‘Back In Flight School’ (out 29th October) ignites even more cross genre potential as Campbell explores where the highs of house meets the depths of soulful funk and disco nostalgia. A smooth and addictive ride that’s rich in harmonies and contagious basslines, this thoughtfully executed and consistent combination from the opening title track to the closing moments leaves you feeling warm inside.
Now getting a technicolour visual makeover from a couple of hot young animators, first single ‘Rockin Beats’ is a prime example of Miguel’s weaving of French touch romanticism, P-Funk cheekiness and the energy of 80s pop idol Michael Jackson. The vocoder Daft Punk style rapping fits seamlessly with this bright and exciting visual accompaniment starring the Robot Rapper who is seen marching angrily through the streets of London, but where is he going?
Fresh out of Camberwell Art College Ewen Farr, the freelance animator/illustrator worked with film maker/editor Benjamin Charles to create this Robot Rapper story fit for ‘Rockin Beats’. More info in links below.
